  • Spotted Bass on Fire at Lake Lanier - Fishing Report

LAKE LANIER IS FULL, MOSTLY CLEAR, SOME POLLEN & MID 70’S

Bass fishing is great. The spotted bass are on Lanier is ON FIRE! Top water has been the ticket. All day. Occasionally, when the bite gets really slow, which is not often, we will switch to a drop shot. Otherwise, we stay on top. We have been starting most mornings working schooling fish that are roaming in 5 to 40 feet of water near points and humps. After the first hour, we switch to focusing on the brush in 17 to 25 feet of water and let 'er rip! We are targeting brush in that depth range on main lake points and humps, as well as in the mouths of the major creeks. I am sure there are other bites out there, but I don't care! Top water is just too fun and when it's on that's what we do. Here are the main baits we have been using: Zara Spook, Gun Fish, Chug Bug, Vixen and a Red Fin. I only have the following 2 dates left open in June: 6 (AM), and the 30th. June is an incredible month for top water! Give me a call and get your date booked soon! The first week in July is also very popular. If you would like a date that week, be sure to call ASAP as well.

This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Guide Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishonguide.com

Striper fishing remains very good. We are continuing to catch good numbers of fish including stripers of all sizes, spotted bass and catfish. You can catch a two pound Striper and 20 pound Striper followed by a 4 pound spotted Bass all on the same point. Blueback Herring pulled on free lines was the most productive last week but, down rods, top water baits early in the morning, and Umbrella rigs will also working. Fish un weighted free lines in the morning and add a couple of split shots and move to deeper water as the day progresses. Start with down rods at 20 feet and adjust the depth as you mark fish. Pull the Umbrella rigs at 60 to 80 feet behind the boat and target 30 to 50 foot bottom. We did not pitching any Herring to points and reef markers this week but it is worth a try. All you need is 8 to 10 dozen Herring, a spinning rod with 12 pound test line and a hook. Pull up to a point cast the herring out and work it back slowly. Change the Herring every third cast. Do not waste your time with a half dead bait! The South end of the Lake is heating up and will only get better as the water continues to warm. Fish points and flats half way back in the creeks. Flowery Branch Creek, Bald Ridge Creek, Shoal Creek and Two Mile Creek are all good places to start on the south end. Mid lake creeks and the Chestatee River are also producing. The water temperature is in the high 70’s during the day. The water is stained in the creeks and clear on the main lake. The lake is at full pool.
