The surface temps are between 80 and 82 degrees from the dam up into the rivers. It's 67 at 25 foot and 55 at 35 foot. The generation has been sporadic at best which I attribute to the Wolf River dam being operational again for the first time in nearly ten years. We are seeing patterns that we haven't seen in almost a decade.
Overall the fishing on Dale has been fair. By day the fish are scattered as they have been in much of the mid south. Most of the early and mid spring bites have not been what they were in recent years. What that means for us is that crappie were not harvested in great numbers during spawn so now we are boating good numbers of true slabs.
The night walleye bite was a one or two a night harvest for most experienced anglers who usually limit out. So that means we should see a lot of 8 to 12lber's this year and next. The night bite has picked up for me and the day has gone from hot to fair which is typical.
The smallmouth have finally moved out in good numbers and we're seeing lots of fish in the 5 lb class with a few over six trolling by day.
Trout fishing is good for the first time in years since the kill. Lots of fish in the 2.5 to 5lb class are being caught both day and night.
Muskies are still shallow and can be caught trolling both day and night. Not long and they will head deep for the summer.
Bluegill and shellcracker fishing was not great during spawn but lower numbers of good sized ones are being caught.
Largemouth fishing has been best at night for us with some nights seeing limits of fish averaging 4 to 6lbs
The channel cats have finally spawned and are now very scattered with a few a day still being caught trolling crankbaits.
