LAKE LANIER IS FULL, CLEAR & MID 80’S

Spotted bass fishing is good. Top water has still been productive, but it is not as strong as it was last week. When the bite gets really slow, we will switch to a drop shot, shaky head, Chattahoochee Jig, or SuperSpin. We have been starting most mornings working schooling fish that are roaming in 5 to 40 feet of water near points and humps. After the first hour, we switch to focusing on the brush in 17 to 25 feet of water with one of the above techniques. We are targeting brush in that depth range on main lake points and humps, as well as in the mouths of the major creeks. Here are the main baits we have been using for top water: Zara Spook, Gun Fish, Chug Bug. I am fully booked for June and now booking for July. I have several dates open. Call to book your July trip now before they fill up. I expect the top water, drop shot and Superspin to be the main techniques for July.

This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Guide Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishonguide.com

Striper fishing is very good. The fish are starting to move out over deeper water. Weighted free lines are working but this could be the last week as the fish will continue to move over deeper water and suspending 30 to 50 feet deep off points and in pockets off the river and creek channels. We are starting early with blueback herring and pulling weighted free lines with 2 to 4 split shots at various distances behind the boat. In addition, we are hanging 4 down rods over the side at depths ranging from 20 to 50 feet depending on the bottom. It’s summertime and now is when your electronics really pays for itself. Use your Lowrance structure scan to locate these fast moving fish and drop your down rods to a couple of feet above the fish. If you want to fish while you are searching an area the Umbrella rig is a good choice. Pull the Umbrella rigs at 60 to 80 feet behind the boat and target 35 to 60 foot bottom when you are searching for fish. When you find them you can pull your umbrella rigs up and put out baits or continue to use you Umbrella rigs to catch fish. You can also use the umbrella rig to get a reaction bite when the stripers will not eat bait. There are a lot of fish on the north end of the lake but the larger fish are moving south. The Chestatee River continues to produce as well as Two Mile, Six Mile, Flowery Branch, Bald Ridge, and Shoal Creeks. The water temperature is in the low to mid 80’s. The water is clear lake wide. The lake is within one foot of full pool. We are offering Father’s Day Gift Certificates at a 10% discount. The gift certificates are good for one year from the date of purchase. To book your Striper fishing trip or purchase a gift certificate call Big Fish On Guide Service at 404 561 2564 or contact us on our web site. www.bigfishonguide.com

This Lake Lanier Crappie report is from Dan Saknini, Member of the Lanier Crappie Angler’s Club. For more information, see our club’s website, laniercrappieanglers.net

Crappie fishing is good. The water temperatures are in the low eighties and fishing patterns remain the same. Beat the boat traffic and the heat by fishing early in the morning. Fish are caught on deeper docks with below surface structure, close to creek channels, as well as in brush piles in deeper water, anywhere from 20 to thirty feet. The fish are holding tight to the structure. Soft body jigs and hair jigs are working equally well. Because the fish are so deep, the bite is harder to feel, so watch your line carefully for ANY movement. Night fishing remains good. Come to our monthly meeting to hear experienced fishermen share tips and techniques. Our next meeting is 6:00 pm Thursday, June 25 at Hammond’s Fishing Center in Cumming. Stay safe on the water, wear your life jacket!
