  • Millwood Lake Fishing Report - AR

    The Overall Picture:

As of Monday, 29 June, the lake continues rising after USACE had opened, then closed the gates to begin a slow release over last weekend. Tropical Storm Bill dumped btw 12-15" rain along the Red River system and as a result, the Red began rising again, thus USACE closed Millwood gates at the dam back to 200cfs over the past week. Millwood had dropped a little over a 1 foot since last week, and began rising again, is now approx 23 feet above normal conservation pool, and rising.

Officially, the USACE has closed the lake to boating and navigation with all USACE boat ramps and campgrounds flooded and closed. With the gates at the dam only open to approx 5,800 cfs today, the lake will most likely continue rising again this week, with all the rainfall from tropical storm Bill.

Water remains inside parking lots, most all campgrounds, and the Millwood State Park as well as other USACE campgrounds and boat ramps are flooded and closed. There is reduced current of Little River this week compared to last week with the gates releasing around 200 CFS Monday. Water temps stable over the past week.

Navigation is considered off limits, and closed to navigation and recreational boating by the USACE and The Little River County. Little River County Judge released press statements that closed Jack's Aisle and Yarborough to boating traffic. Little River County Judge states that boaters going out on the lake will be fined if emergency or rescue operations are called upon. Navigation on Millwood or Little River with these conditions is discouraged by authorities.

Surface temps as of Monday, are ranging approx 83ºF early to 87ºF range, depending on location, wind, and sun.

Lake level is currently is 282.11 ft-msl, rising aprox 2 feet since last week, yet remains approx 23 feet above normal. Normal consv. pool is 259.20 feet. Discharge rate near 200 CFS as of Monday. Tailwater level unavailable on Monday, also continues to rise as the Red River backs up to the Millwood Dam with the increase in release of lake water. Beards Lake and campground which was also closed by the USACE for public safety over the past couple weeks, remains closed, however the water is receding from those areas rapidly. Millwood State Park and all USACE campgrounds remain closed until further notice and water recedes.

    The Details:

Lake is considered off limits by USACE and Little River County officials. Millwood Lake is officially closed to navigation and boating recreation until further notice by these authorities.
