  • Dale Hollow Dave's Report

The Lake is flooded and falling. In the past weeks we've seen Dale at the highest levels all year. The debris that was seemingly everywhere and unavoidable is now on the decline and clean water is abundant.

The surface temp is 86 and it's 70 at 25 foot, 67 at 30 foot and 55 at 40 foot.
Dale Hollow is healthier than I've seen it in over a decade. We have not experienced a shad kill in over 5 years so the forage is more than abundant which has made the numbers go down but the size and especially the girth amazing.
Trolling for smallmouth by day has been great and will continue. The average size and girth of these fish has been the best I've seen in many years. Usually by this time of year they are lean and mean and streamline. We're not seeing this. The girth has been simply amazing. The night time jig bite is on as well.
Walleye trolling by day has really picked up. And several fish over 10lbs are being caught. These fish are of winter proportion. Night fishing is fair but should really pickup with the coming full moon.
Muskie fishing is slow. with some being caught at night while trolling for walleye. It should improve in late October.
Trout fishing is good both trolling by day and live bait fishing at night. It's good to see that some survived the kill five years ago with some true giants being harvested.
Crappie fishing has been good at night under lights. Numbers aren't alway great but the size has been with most fish being in the 12 to 14 inch range.
Fishing for white bass has been good both day and night with fish averaging 18 inches with some up to and over twenty.
Trolling for largemouth by day has been good.
Blue Gill and shellcracker fishing has been fair but should really pick up with the coming full moon.
