Howdy anglers. This is your smallmouth report for Dale Hollow lake. I spent 18 days on the water during the month of July and the bite has changed several times. The lower end of the lake has been all but dead when it comes to catching fish. So I've been running up lake 15-35 miles. I drive until I find fish and sometimes it just takes a while. I'm marking lots of fish but the only ones that are biting are in 15-25 feet. I've yet to catch a fish from 30 feet or more. In the past I've caught them all the way to 40 feet but not this year.
I haven't caught any over 19" this month at all. But in June I had many hit 20" and two measured greater than 21". The bite was the best around July 7-10th. I think it was a new moon then so maybe the darkness helped the bite or it was all the rain from the July 4th weekend. Most fish are biting a hair jig tipped with a plastic trailer or a spinnerbait slow rolled along the bottom.
The water temps are 83-85 and the water is beginning to drop and lots of the logs have been cleaned off the surface. There are still some floaters out there so be careful when running at night, use your spot lights often. Email with any questions adamvogelsang@insightbb.com
