The Ledge Bite
The lake is back to summer pool and the current has slacked off, so I’m happy to say a lot of the bait and bass have moved back out to the main river ledges. I’m seeing plenty of bass and bait suspended out on the main river ledge. Some of these ledges are loaded with fish. Then some of the fish have scattered out on some of the ledges, this is typical for july and august. This is easy to see on your Lowrance structure scan.
I am catching fish on crankbaits (fat free shad and citrus and Bag5 green gizzard), my best bite is on a ZOOM’s Ole monster worms, Blue Fleck, Plum, watermelon candy and green pumpkin magic. The jig bite is still good but seems like they are on the worm better. The jig I’m using is one that I make its a ¾ ounce football style, green pumpkin purple and Green pumpkin green, with a ZOOM fat Albert twin tail trailer. Green pumpkin purple and I like a sapphire blue also, it’s been good over the years when the bass are feeding on shad, I don’t know why but it’s been something I’ve used for many years.
I want to help other anglers catch and find fish, so if you need help let me know.
Recommended equipment: Deep crankbaits a 7’6” to 7’11” Lews Crankbait rod with a Lews reel spooled with 12 to 15lb Seaguar Flourocarbon.
Jigs: 7’ to 7’6”Lews rod, I like a rod with length when fishing jigs on ledges, you want a rod that will take up line quickly on the hook set and still be stiff enough to set the hook, without being too stiff to fish and a Lews reel spooled with 15lb Seaguar fluorocarbon, I prefer the AbrazX.
The Grass Bite
With the water levels back down to summer pool we have some good grass on the surface further south on a buzz bait and the frog bite is getting back on early. I’m catching some also on a spinnerbait and Rat L trap.
The ledges have been my best bite but if a guy is fishing further south then this is a good start. Focus on the main lake grass and at the mouths of creeks.

Summer guide trips
Book you summer trip now to reserve your date. I still have a few days left in August. Book an 8 hour bass trip one or two people $325.00 or a 6 hour for $250.00 fuel included and bait is included.
If you like to catch fish using a frog in the mats this is a good time to do it, it’s fun and exciting to have those bass blow up on it.
Ledge Fishing on the water class
The fish are on the ledges good and it’s a good time to learn and get confidence by catching fish on the ledges
If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
Get on schools of fish and get them fired up! This is some of my favorite techniques on this amazing lake. Just give me a call or email me at
