LAKE LANIER IS DOWN 4.6 FEET, CLEAR & HIGH 70’S

Bass fishing report by Jimbo Mathley, www.jimboonlanier.com

Bass fishing is good and has really picked up over the last week. We have been starting most mornings by working rock bluffs as well as rock and clay flats with Spro Crankbaits and War Eagle spinnerbaits at daylight for some good fish. After the first hour, a Chattahoochee Jig and a Davis Shaky Head will produce during the day on those same steeper rock places. Work the worms and jigs slowly for the best success. There have been some fatties eating on the rock and clay. There are also fish showing up on some flat clay points later in the day as well. If the wind is up, a spinnerbait has been a good bet for those fish. September is definitely a time of transition on our lake. Junk fishing is in style this month, meaning you are likely to catch a bass on a variety of lures at all different depths from shallow to deep. There are still plenty of deep fish that have not moved out of the timber to the brush, although they are beginning to transition and more fish are starting to show up over the brush. The top water bite has begun around the brush, and a Crankbait is working as well when the fish won't come up. I am fully booked for September (Thank you) and am filling up quickly for October, but still have some dates left. For October, I have the following dates open: 2(PM), 8(PM), 9(PM), 21, 22, 23, 29 and 30. Give me a call ASAP to book your October trip and get in on what promises to be a great top water and swimbait bite.

This Striper fishing report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On! Service, 404 561 2564. www.bigfishon.com

Striper fishing is good. Fall is here and the lake temperature is starting to drop. While this cooler air is a temperature break for the fisherman the fish reacted last week by “spreading out” and not schooling like they were during the summer highs. Consider changing your approach and instead of looking for larger schools to fish, try dropping your baits when you see 2 or 3 fish together. There are probably more fish around and you can draw them to you just by putting out baits and catching a single fish. Down rod fishing with blueback herring continues to be the primary technique. Rig your down rods with a 2 ounce weight and a 6 to 8 foot fluorocarbon 12 pound test leader attached with a swivel and a bead on the main line. Deploy 3 down rods and rig a 4th rod with a 2 foot leader for power reeling or jig with the Ben Parker Spoon. Trolling with lead core line and umbrella rigs is also working. Set your lead core line 8 colors back with a 1 ounce buck tail jig and a 50 foot leader. Pull the Umbrella rig at 3 MPH with a 3ounce jig frame and 9 one ounce buck tail jigs 150 feet back. Like the last several weeks, the fish are in deeper water in the creek mouths and off the river channel. Six Mile Creek, Four Mile Creek, Flowery Branch, Orr Creek, Big Creek and main lake deep water pockets are all good places to start your search. The water temperature is in the mid 70’s. The water is stained in the backs of the creeks and clear on the main lake. The lake is 4.5 feet below full pool. To book your guide trip call us at 404-561-2564 or contact us on our web site.

This Lake Lanier Crappie report is from Dan Saknini, member of the Lanier Crappie Angler’s Club. See our club’s website, www.laniercrappieanglers.net

Water temperature is about 78 degrees and falling. If you’re fishing the Chattahoochee or the Chestatee, you will notice that the water temperature drops the further north you go. The lake has begun to turn over, and if you are fishing the northern part of the lake, you’ll notice the gas bubbles coming off the bottom. You’ll also notice that the bait is starting to move north. That being said, there are still a lot of fish holding in deeper areas on the south end of the lake, and fishing is good to excellent. Stand alone brush piles in twenty to thirty feet of water are producing best. Your Lowrance down scan electronics play a big part in finding fish. Some brush piles will hold a lot more fish than others. Soft body jigs and hair jigs are producing equally well, such as Bobby Garland and Mr. Crappie jigs. If you prefer a hair jig, Jiffy Jigs are still my “go to” jigs. The fish are holding tight to the brush, and you can expect to lose a few jigs in the trees, so always carry extras. We are still not catching the bigger fish, but if you are into fun fishing, you can get on them a catch a good number quickly. You may have to try six or eight brush piles, but when you find them, the fun is on! Don’t get discouraged, just keep moving until you find them. It’s always a good idea to have several spots in mind to try when you head out. Be safe on the water! Wear your life jacket, it can save your life!
