WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & 85 DEGREES
Bass fishing is fair and there are lots of schooling in the shallows just before sunset. Fish are being caught early in the morning on buzz baits and Pop R’s. Keep the Super Fluke ready all day and pearl is the best color. Once the sun comes up, the pattern is deep diving crank baits and Carolina rigs on main lake points and humps. Flipping jigs around docks will produce a bigger bite but fewer bites. The best color for the Carolina rig would be watermelon seed or green pumpkin while for the crank bait use a shad color bait with some chartreuse. The fish seem to be more scattered and suspended. While the fish are moving around, they are actively feeding. Keep the baits small this week and the little Rat L Traps and Shad Raps will work and use some Fireline Crystal 10 pound test to get the baits a little deeper. On the surface, smaller fish are chasing the newly hatched shad. Target suspended fish in 16 to 18 feet of water and stay in the middle part of the lake below Hwy 109.
Crappie are still being caught on minnows under bridges and lights at night in 8 to 12 feet. You can see the feeding times daily with a Data Sport Fish and Game Forecaster on our web site.
