10/18-2015 Okeechobee Fishing Report
Bass fishing is very good, artificial baits are taking large numbers of small bass with some better fish in the mix as well. Top water baits and spinner baits are the ticket at sunrise , once the sun gets up a slower more methodical approach is necessary. A fluke or senko in a green pumpkin or black/blue color will work well. Swim jigs and flipping style jigs with craw trailers are accounting for the bigger bass taken in the heavier cover areas. Shiner fishing is just getting a good start as the fish that have been in the open water of the lake during the summer return to the littoral zones where they become much easier to target. As the water cools and we move into November it will officially be "on" for big bass and large numbers of bass during shiner trips. Every fish in Lake Okeechobee will eat a wild shiner given the chance. Better areas for bass production are Indian Prairie and Tin House Cove. Look for bass down the Eastern side of the lake as far South as J&S canal. Typical morning trips are yielding 25 to 30 Bass and getting better weekly, it's time!
pan fish: very few anglers are targeting speckled perch as of yet, those that have ventured out at night in the Kissimmee River have found mixed results, small fish, low numbers, so far.
