I've enjoyed the outdoors and fishing for as long as I can remember. It was a way of life and still is to this day. Now I run my own guide business and fish tournaments across the country. If your looking for a good, laid back, fun time on the water or some serious learning give me a call or drop me an email. I fish Kentucky and Barkley Lake along with winter trips on Lake Okeechobee.
Winter may trying to push it's way into some parts of the country here in South Florida we seem to be hitting a new record high on a daily basis. For those who enjoy the warmth life is good but it has put a damper on the push of fish into the grassy cover of Lake Okeechobee. With water temps still in the lower to mid 80's the crappies have yet to move into the Kissimmee grass to begin spawning yet. The majority of fish are being caught in the open water of the main lake by either anchoring up on the windy days or slow drifting on the calmer days. Others are also catch fish in the Kissimmee River and Indian Prairie canal. The bass haven't made the commitment to move to their spawning areas yet either. Many of the fish we've caught are still on the outside edge with schooling fish on artificial baits like spinnerbaits, Outkast Tackle swim jigs, SPRO Aruku Shads and jerkbaits. Of course it's Lake Okeechobee and if you are going to catch a giant on artificial punching heavy cover is the deal though it's not for the casual angler as it is a lot of work but can be worth it when you bust a giant. Live bait fishing wit shiners is by far and away the best bet and most relaxing way to catch a fish of a lifetime here on the Big O. This is what we've done during the trips this past week with some great results.
