February is prime time for big bass on Lake Okeechobee, at this time we have fish in all different stages swimming in the shallow shoreline cover of Lake Okeechobee. There are waves of bass that have just moved in to spawn, as well as Bass that spawned on the past full moon and are trying to recover the energy they expended from spawning, so they are feeding heavily. From now until late Spring we will have the best of it when it comes to bass catching on Okeechobee. Bass will be cycling in and out of their spawning areas and then returning to the holding areas in the thick cover where they will be feeding heavily on both shad and wild golden shiners. When it comes to catching truly trophy sized bass on Lake Okeechobee it is much easier to feed them (with a wild shiner) than it is to fool them (artificial bait). We have been catching large specks (crappie) at will on jigs in the hydrilla infested areas of the lake. Limits of 12 to 14 inch fish are being caught daily. We have added another boat to our arsenal this year so that we are able to take group trips or families fishing.
