Spring fishing on Kentucky Lake means that each day you could run into different situations on the water. The lake was muddy with heavy current now it’s been pulled back down almost 12 inches this week (354.24) and that’s a lot of water when it’s already low. Also some of the creeks are clearing up, but its 3-9-16 and now it’s going to rain for the next several days. So that means the lake will probably be rising this weekend and that’s a good thing. It will bring the fish back up shallow, 1 to 4 feet deep. I am still catching them shallow cranking with square bills, crawfish patterns and in the cleaner water I’ve gone to Bag5baits.com Rootbeer and Silver bone. Reds color crankbaits and rattlin baits have been best tho in the stained water. The retrieve has been best with just a slow crawl. It’s too easy to get cranking to fast, you have to stay mentally aware of the speed of your bait. Also a jerk bait has caught me a few fish in the cleaner water. I haven’t fished the A rig a lot this week but I can see it coming into play now with the current backing down to 63,500 by this weekend add 55 degree water. I have been also swimming a LBAbaits.com swim bait (whisky color) on a 3/8 ounce swim bait on 17lb Seaguar fluorocarbon and a 7ft 4 Lews rod.
