Fishing statement: To try to insure that fishing stays in the hearts of those that love it and to help the ones that are going too!

    Fishing or not!
For those fishermen that have been fishing either with us over here at Miss Judy Charters or out on their own you all already know how windy it has been. Well, no matter the weather conditions it is still fishing and sometimes not catching! Even when we are not catching something I still want to grab a rod and give it a try!
    Whiting Plight!

I got to tell you I have never been so happy over one fish. And that fish my friend is the old school whiting. For the past few weeks offshore fishermen have been basically tied to the piling meaning sea conditions were very rough. So if my customers hadn’t wanted to give whiting fishing a try, well, I would have not been doing much fishing! Since I have been fishing so much for this fish it has been easy giving new rigs a try. I have definitely proven that using a 1/0 to 2/0 Kahle hook is much more likely to catch that whiting when it cares to bite. Another thing is the bait you put on the hook needs to be on the small size. Heck, to me it looked too small for such a large hook. However, apparently whiting fish don’t look before they bite. Now they might smell a bit for sure, because they do react to bait change ups. I like having on my bait board small pieces of cut shrimp some parts peeled and some not. They also like small pieces of fillet whiting mixed in with their shrimp. The combination is better known as a whiting combo. I also like to let my shrimp air/sun dry and I always like to explain to my customers the why of this process. It seems that pieces of shrimp or fish once dried repaginate themselves when introduced back into the water.

When talking about the different stages of baits Repaginate leads to repagination!
I already know that repaginate is not a word and believe me I have been told this many times. However, it doesn’t matter to me, because this word is definitely listed is the Captain Judy’s fishing dictionary. As soon as the once soft bait air dries the juices are sealed in. After it is dropped back into the water the pieces don’t exactly come alive, but their smells do! So therefore when your bait is repaginated once dropped back into the water repagination takes place!

Inshore fishing with Captain Matt Williams!

Surf Fishing Tips from Glenn Conway!
Glenn talks about using Crab Knuckles as bait!
And here’s what Glenn says and believe me this is so interesting for sure!
Glenn Conway is our local “surf fishing specialist!”

So here you go Glenn explaining his take and worth of crab knuckles used as bait………………….

Crab knuckles. I think the use of crab knuckles originated down in Florida with the commercial Pompano fisherman targeting large Pompano. As I’m sure you know Blue Crabs are very effective bait for Redfish, Black Drum, and Bonnetheads. I heard somewhere that even Tarpon eat Blue Crabs, but not sure about that one. Crab can all so be a great bait when targeting super sized Whiting, larger Pompano, Reds, and Sheepshead. The trick is to present the crab in a way more suitable for them, hence crab knuckles. The crab must be fresh and medium sized ones work best. Judy, I’m positive you have eaten your fair share of Blue Crabs so you know their anatomy well. I first snip off all the legs including the claws and use that for chum. Don’t pull out the leg meat when removing the legs, very important. Then I take off the back and am left with the two halves that hold that delicious tasty meat. Judy, I know you could open one of the sides and expertly dig out the meat from each chamber. Dang, my mouths watering thinking about it. Anyway, to make crab knuckles you want to get a sharp pair of snips and cut the crab along those chambers. Hint, each leg hole has a chamber. What you should wind up with is a little crab sandwich with shell on the outside and tasty meat in the middle. Go here for a how to video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9609-A5r2ls.

    Artificial Reefs
When I talk to my customers about the artificial reef trips I have some explaining to do and it goes like this:

All artificial reefs located in less than 50 feet of water are holding a lot of black sea bass. However, not many of them are legal keeping size. So if all you want lots of action and very short boat ride to the fish while practicing catch and release, this is the trip to book. However, for those fishermen that want catch, keep, and get a little longer boat ride the artificial reefs located in 55 feet plus of water this is the trip for you!

Thad Stone and Tyler Stone are sporting what is better known as big fish catching smiles! This is a nice genuine red snapper that is sometimes referred to as a sow! This fish was caught fought and released back to the wild!

    Savannah Snapper Banks
If I have said it once I have said it hundreds of times….this area holds the interest of lots of bottom and top water fish. And the best news is during the migration times, you really never know what you might catch!

    Gulf Stream

It is time to go! We got black fin tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo!

This is a sand tile! While deep dropping in the deep blue waters of the Gulf Stream Daniel Owsley and his fishing team scored big time. They caught a little of everything from 10 pound trigger fish to foot ball size vermilion snapper to a few sand tile! So for those that would like to do this kind of fishing now is the time!
