  • Richland Chambers Fishing Report - TX

The rains came , the creeks rose, the spillway gates were open wide and the fishing went from what I'd describe as very good to tough as nails! All this occurred over the short period from Monday thru Saturday of last week. The lake level topped out at a little over a foot above pool level before the 24 spillway gates were opened and the slow process of lowering the lake began. I'm guessing we'll have several gates open for the next few weeks as there's a lot of water in the creeks and lakes above RC that still need to be lowered. All depends on how much more rain Mother Nature has in store for us the remainder of Spring.

Early in the week we were catching LOTS of small White Bass and Hybrids and a decent amount of Keeper Whites. A box of 50-60 Keepers per boat was the norm until around Thursday. (See Pic from Tuesday's Trip) The fishing got a bit tougher and on Thursday and Friday as we had 30 Keeper days and then on Saturday we got really "humbled" and the two boats combined had only 32 Keepers. All the fresh water stained the Main Lake and the fish became very difficult to find and catch. Based on other's reports, the only successful fishing over the late week period was for Catfish which seem to enjoy all the additional water.

The good news is that the creeks are already flowing at about half the rate they were immediately after the rain, the lake level is being lowered and we'll hopefully not receive the massive amounts of rain we received recently. It doesn't take too long for the main lake clarity to return and the fish have to eat. I'm guessing this next week we'll be back to catching fish and telling fish stories!

If you're contemplating a trip to RC and want to know the current conditions and fishing activity, give us a call or email. We are on the lake almost everyday and the fishing can go from great to poor to great again literally overnight. It's the best time of the year to get outdoors, take a family fishing trip and enjoy a Spring Day!
