  • Miami Fishing Report - FL

For the past two weeks Hermine as a tropical low. then a depression, storm hurricane and now back to a storm getting people interested in fishing was not easy. Yesterday longtime regular client March, his son Arie, daughter Alisha and wife Beth joined me for a half day of fishing in North Bay. The wind was blowing but rain was not in the forecast. Not being on the water for days and then having a tropical system dump a bunch of rain and throw a ton of wind the past few days meant going into the Bay kind of blind. We headed north in the Bay with a strong south wind to our backs and soon saw pelicans diving. That was great because before the stormy conditions set in there were early Spanish mackerel, bluefish, jacks and ladyfish feeding on the baitfish schools. I quickly threw the cast net and hundreds of frisky pilchards in the live well. Unfortunately nothing was feeding on the baitfish in this area. We headed north towards the Oleta River and soon found jack crevalles and small barracudas that eagerly ate our live pilchards. Fishing the baitfish under a Cajun Thunder float and hooked to a Mustad Ultra Point #4 short shank hook was working fine until two of the rods got hit by big hungry jacks that ran lots of line of the Daiwa Lexa reels. These were big jacks and both broke us off. With an hour and a half left of the charter we get looking for more fish and in no time had two nice snook releases, many more jacks and a 15 pound tarpon catch and release. Nice way to get back into the swing of things.

After my charter I did a little scouting and found a huge school of mullet that were being chased by big fish. By the time I got into the area that the action had been it was over. Just for the heck of it I threw out a scoop of pilchards to see if I could get the big fish interested. Within seconds a school of sea trout started eating the baits off the surface. For the next hour or more I caught over 20 sea trout to 18 inches with live baits and Rapala X Raps. All in winds that were blowing over 20.
If you're interested in any of these species and looking to get out on the water for 4, 6 or 8 hours then give me a call and let's see what we can do!
