Have you ever asked a fishing guide or captain, When is the best time to go fishing? Right now and for the next few months! That’s right. Forget about Zika, the heat and the weather! Drop what you’re doing and booked a fishing charter now!
Schools of finger mullet, black mullet and silver mullet have migrated into Biscayne Bay. Early this season probably because of this past tropical system that passed close to us and then hit the east coast. The fall migration has started early and snook and jack crevalles of all sizes and small tarpon have lost their shyness as they feed like there is no tomorrow. Just a few days ago in six hours in the Bay we released 9 snook to 32.5 inches including 3 snook that were in the slot. We also lost over a half dozen other snook with four of them being slot size or close to 20 pounds. These fish ate our finger mullet like there was no tomorrow. We had tarpon and jack crevalles and had opportunity to hook up to jacks that were easily 10 pounds but choose to let them pass knowing they would eat up our snook catching time. Many times there would hundreds of small to medium size jack crevalles chasing small pilchards, threadfin herring and Spanish sardines out of the water inches from us.

This kind of fishing will continue for many weeks but the fish are less spooky now. Soon Spanish mackerel, bluefish, large ladyfish, juvenile kingfish and sharks will join in with the snook, tarpon, jacks and sea trout that are here now.
You don’t need to ask when is the best time to go fishing? Not anymore! Now is the time!

If you're interested in any of these species and looking to get out on the water for 4, 6 or 8 hours then give me a call and let's see what we can do!

If you read the Miami Herald in print or on the web you may have noticed that the Miami Herald has not had a Fishing Report for the past two weeks. I was asked by the Herald to stop writing that report. I was informed that the Sports Department had to release all of their free-lance writers due to a lack of funds. I am not sure if they will have a fulltimer pick up that article or not. Having grown up in South Florida I had the pleasure of reading Vic Dunaway, Jim Martinoff, Marty Klinkenberger, Jim Hardy and Sue Cocking’s articles and fishing reports over my lifetime. I always looked forward to seeing those reports every Friday and Sunday and then Thursday and Sunday. It’s sad that a fishing community like ours can’t support a Fishing Report once a week. If I was asked to do it again I would not hesitate to do just that. I’m not sure if a letter to editor or a call to Herald will make a difference but it may! If you contributed to that article while I was writing it I Thank You!
So there you have it. Be flexible as to where you fish and you are sure to get in on the action.

Check out my report in the Florida Sportsman Magazines South Florida Internet Fishing Report
www.floridaspotsman.com), my monthly Action Spotter Fishing Report for the South Region in the Florida Sportsman Magazine each month.
Fall is here and the fishing in South Florida is about to explode. With water temperatures rising sea trout and snook will start their spawning seasons. Bigger fish and bigger numbers of fish! Spanish mackerel, bluefish and kingfish are heading north for the summer. As they pass the Miami area they always provide a months' worth of action. Big jack crevalles will be chasing baitfish schools in North Bay and big tarpon will be stealing baits intended for other fish. Offshore we will see kingfish and Spanish mackerel, bonitos, sailfish, dolphins and blackfin tuna feeding right alongside each other. In Flamingo in Everglades National Park we will see the return of all of the migratory birds as they fill the park and make unbelievable sunrise pictures. Fishing for snook, redfish, sheepshead, blackdrum, snapper, sea trout, jacks ladyfish, sharks, tripletail, cobia and more will be as e exciting light tackle fishing as one could wish for.
