Recently cooler weather has arrived in South Florida. The seasonal change has sparked some outstanding fishing for the fishing guides and their clients and friends. Pick a location any location and there are fish to be caught and some are very respectable!
Fishing in North Bay continues to produce good numbers of snook, jacks, snappers, barracudas and sea trout. A few small tarpon and sharks are being encountered as well. Some of the action has been over the grass flats where Hookup lures tipped with a Gulp soft plastic has attracted sea trout and jacks of all sizes. A live finger mullet or pilchard hooked to a Mustad #4 Ultra Point Big Gun 10829NP-BN hook fished free lined or from under a Cajun Thunder float has been deadly on the snook, jacks, tarpon, sharks and sea trout.




I have been using a new product that has made catching live baitfish so much easier than before. Aquatic Nutrion Inc chum. No refrigeration necesssary! It has also attractyed lots of snappers, groupers, mackerel and bluerunners to the boat.


South Bay has been producing catches of under size mutton snappers, under size red groupers, porgies, mangrove snappers, yellowtail snappers, lane snappers, big bluerunners, yellowjacks and Spanish and cero mackerel. The mackerel have been eating Rapala #8 and #10 X Raps. On a few trips we had over 20 mutton snappers and lots of mackerel around the boat.







Offshore when I have been able to get offshore has been pretty interesting. Legal size mutton snappers, mangrove snappers, dolphins to 15 pounds, yellowjacks, big bluerunners, small bonitos, big barracudas and skip jack tunas. These fish were caught using live baits and artificial lures.





Flamingo fishing has been pretty good with some of the colder water fish starting to show up. Cobia, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, tripletail and lots of jack and ladyfish are showing up in decent numbers on the outer fringes of Florida Bay, Snook, redfish and the first sheepshead and black drum are being caught in the channels and along the mangrove shorelines and sea trout are available in great numbers.

If you read the Miami Herald in print or on the web you may have noticed that the Miami Herald has not had a Fishing Report for the past few weeks. I was asked by the Herald to stop writing that report. I was informed that the Sports Department had to release all of their free-lance writers due to a lack of funds. I am not sure if they will have a fulltimer pick up that article or not. Having grown up in South Florida I had the pleasure of reading Vic Dunaway, Jim Martinoff, Marty Klinkenberger, Jim Hardy and Sue Cocking's articles and fishing reports over my lifetime. I always looked forward to seeing those reports every Friday and Sunday and then Thursday and Sunday. It's sad that a fishing community like ours can't support a Fishing Report once a week. If I was asked to do it again I would not hesitate to do just that. I'm not sure if a letter to the editor or a call to Herald will make a difference but it may! Miami Fishing Forecast:

Ton's of baitfish are pouring into our Bays and sliding south along our beaches and the hungry predators are going nuts on them. That kind of action will be happening on and off for the next three months. Snook, tatrpon, redfish, sea trout, sharks. ladyfish, jacks, tripletail, cobia, pompano, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, black drum and sheepshead will all be feeding in Flamingo throughout the fall and into the winter. And the birding is getting better every day in Flamingo.
