  • Lake Fork Fishing Report - TX

This has definitely been the best Fall I can remember on Lake Fork. I'm pretty sure I've had more 100 fish (largemouths) days this season than all my years of guiding combined. This year, the fishing has been incredible for largemouths, yellow bass, and white bass. The magnum white bass seemed to have disappeared around the beginning of June. But they re-appeared in many of my fishing areas a couple of weeks ago. So we've occasionally been able to get into some nonstop (every cast) action with giant white bass, in addition to a good largemouth bite and tons of yellow bass and smaller white bass.

The morning bite has been best for numbers of largemouths. We been getting best numbers on dropshots, Carolina rig, spoons, and tailspinners in 15-20 feet. Later in the day, I primarily fish deeper humps that are loaded with white and yellow bass. We don't usually catch as many largemouths on those humps. But we get lots of action - and the bass we do catch tend to be bigger than the primary largemouth schools. We've been getting 20 to 50 fish on many of those spots in about a 1/2 hour. Spoons and tailspinners work best on those humps, but plastics get a lot better ratio of black bass over yellow and white bass.

The water temp is in the mid to upper 50s. The closer the water temp is to 60 degrees, the more active the fish tend to be. So you can expect the bite to slow down soon. I expect this winter to be better than normal just because of the shear number of 1-2 pound bass in the lake right now. But I expect the bite to slow down to 20 fish or less per day by the end of December - if not earlier.

The fishing has been so good on Lake Fork that I haven't been to the power plant lakes this season. But I will be traveling to Monticello and Welsch as soon as the bite slows down. According to the forecast, I expect that slowdown to be next week.

I'm still running a promotion for the rest of the year. 1/2 day is $175 for one person or $200 for 2 people on Lake Fork. Full day is $350 (Monticello or Fork). My calendar has been updated to reflect the price.
This is the time to bring a kid or a beginner. If you bring a kid, I'll make a video at no extra charge.
