It's been a long drought this fall since the last time I fished and posted a fishing report.
Today it finally ended. Daisy, Alex, Kevin, and Brian fished a half day. No current and green water had me deciding to fish some of the deeper wrecks.
It definitely paid off with action on the first three drops. Caught 2 amberjacks reef donkeys before a shark moved in, cut us off on the third drop, and shut the fish off.
Tried a deeper wreck that held no fish.
Set up a drift in 160' and had something scream line off the reel and the hook missed it's mark.
Trolled the planers and hooked up. Just before the planer came up, the hook pulled. I was beginning to think I was using rubber hooks.
Make one final move to another wreck and hooked up on the first drop. Everything was going fine until were about 50 feet down and NOT AGAIN, the hook pulled. Dropped again and this time a shark cut us off.
Those sharks have to eat too, however, they can be a real nuisance.
On the next day's afternoon fishing trip we once again had beautiful weather. The light south wind and calm seas made the run out a short quick one. Once were were on the fishing grounds, we found green water and no current. Not the best combination of conditions, however, we made the best of it by slow trolling our live baits.
The decision was a good on as Cody hooked up almost immediately and we put a small blackfin tuna in the fish box. We continued to slow troll with no further results so it was time for a change of technique.
We ran south looking for any type of edge and after making our way to the sea buoy I saw a slight color change out deeper. Offshore we went. In 530' birds were working over a slick that held some grass. Out went the live baits and the dolphin/mahi found us very quickly.
We had steady action with the dolphin/mahi and it seemed like the later it got in the afternoon, the more the dolphin/mahi moved through the area. By the time we decided to run back in to try for something else, Cody had caught 17 dolphin. We kept 4 and released the rest.
After it got dark, back inside the bay we found a school of very hungry jack crevalle. We caught and released 4 before calling it a night and heading back to TNT Marine Center.
