Lake Okeechobee
Fishing Report
12-26-16
Lake Okeechobee fishing has been awesome. The full moons of January and February will have the big ones moving in to spawn. I have been catching numbers of fish on artificial and bigger fish on wild shiners; the shiner bite continues to do well.
I’m catching lots of fish and the best bite for numbers, have been fishing the main lake grass with a Lucky Craft LV500, I’m fishing it on 17lb Seaguar fluorocarbon. If the lake is calm you can see them chasing bait.
Also I can catch some fish fishing a ZOOM speed worm in watermelon red with a 3/16 Pro Tungsten weight in the boat lanes and scattered eel grass and gator grass.
My biggest fish I’ve caught flipping the hydrilla mattes with a 1 ½ to 2 ounce Pro Tungsten (protungsten.com) and a ZOOM Z craw in black and blue using Seaguar Braid. These fish have been better quality fish in the mattes. This is another pattern to use when the sun is high.
Lake Okeechobee is only going to get better so make sure to book your winter fishing trips soon.
