It was an incredible December here on Lake Okeechobee. The shiner bite was great with numbers and great size being caught. The artificial bite has picked up with more fish in now with a couple of good spawning waves coming in. The lake overall is a bit muddier than normal do to all the wind we have experienced but the fish have still been biting in it. Lake level is at 14.20 on a slow fall with the clean water being found quite a ways off the main lake. Artificial baits right now are Big Bite Baits ''trick stick'' stick worms, Outkast Tackle swim jigs,PiscassoShock Blade bladed jig and spinnerbaits as well as a descent bite on topwater. I prefer throwing everything on braid as it cuts through the grass and vegetation much better than mono or fluorocarbon. I use the Sunline SX 30lb on most everything except punchin where I use 65lb. We've caught punchin fish in both matted out hydrilla and mats against the cattail hard line. Scattered hydrilla mixed with eel grass has been holding a lot of fish we've caught on the jerkbaits and stick worms. 6'' Trick Stick paired with a Gamakatsu 4/0 off set hook and 1/4oz Bag 5 Baits tungsten wgt. have been deadly.
