Now available for sale 50 of my proven GPS waypoints for off shore structure for Bass and Crappie fishing on Weiss Lake, Alabama. Contact Ken Sturdivant at ken@southernfishing.com.

Bass fishing is slow and jigs and spoons are fair. The fish are still in their wintertime mode and they are not moving much. To get a bite put the baits right in front of them. Use the Lowrance 200 kHz frequency and split the screen to bottom lock and watch for the fish to be dead on the bottom. Drop small spoons on the bottom in the creek mouths close to the river and pick them up and drop them about 5 inches at a time. After the cold weather goes through, the bass will head to the creeks looking for small bait fish. Small Fish Head Spins with a small Zoom fluke trailer and a Shad Raps will be the best baits.

Crappie fishing is good. Most fish being taken in 16 to 20 feet of water on structure. One of the best places to find structure is out along the old river channel. Fish the old channel edges. Fish the brush piles on the break lines closest to deep water. Jiffy Jigs are the best all winter baits. Try trolling and watch the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan beams at the same time. Send the side beams out to 4 time the depth of the water. Leave the down beam in auto depth.
