  • Indian River Fishing Report - FL

Winter dropped somecold weather on us this past week. I knew when I got in the truck and itsaid 34 degrees and there was ice on the windshield....it was cold! Asidefrom cool nights, the weather couldn't be more spectacular lately. Calmwinds and the days warming up has made it worthwhile to deal with the coolnessof the mornings. It has been a fun week again for us!

Don, Art andSherman were back up to fish this month. They caught one short red tostart off the day and added a good number of sheepshead to round out themorning. Bob and 7 year old, Alex, were out on another beautiful day inspite of a cold start. Alex caught lots of fish including sheepshead, snapper, grouper and jacks. Bob and I enjoyed seeing him smile allmorning. Lynn, Ed and Rudy were out to celebrate Ed's birthday and theyweren't disappointed. Together they caught lots of sheepshead and snapperplus six nice trout and two very nice pompano. We started out very cold, but things warmed up quickly. Richard and Ed found a good number ofsnapper, sheepshead and jacks to keep them busy. They added a couple nicepompano to top off the morning. It was nice to see the calm weather helpus to have a great time this week!

Our trout has beenin deeper cuts and channels this week. The pompano have been in the sameareas. For artificial lures try a DOA shad tail on a 1/4 oz jighead. Fish them slowly along the bottom in the deeper cuts of theriver. Snook season is open now and most of the action has been aroundthe bridges and inlet. The incoming tides have been the mostproductive. Our redfish continue to come around the docks with liveshrimp or a DOA shrimp. The mackerel have begun to show up around theinlets this week. It's a great time of year to get out fishing!
