Lake Cumberland fishing report for march 8,2017. The water temp on the lower end is about 50 degrees on the surface and clear on the main lake. The head of the creeks are murky from the recent rains. The striper fishing has been fair most days with nice sized fish bending caught but not the greatest numbers. The average lately has been about 4 stripers per trip. The one bonus lately is good numbers of bass. The warmer surface water has all the bass species pretty active especially in the hollows mid creek. They love to eat medium sized alewives that we are using for stripers. At times they test your patience but at the end of the day when stripers are not biting the greatest a few more fish are welcomed.
We have been catching stripers from surface to 30 ft deep most days. Bottom fishing has produced some stripers with a abundance of bass also. I've heard good reports on crappie in the creeks fished close to cover from 5 to 25 ft deep. Strangely we have not started catching catfish yet. Last year there was a surplus of them and I think they are still in the lake. I'd say when the water warms just a little they will show up. I have not been on the river yet but as soon as it starts raining more and they generate more I will be down there. This spring should be great for the lake and the river.
God bless
