Scott Patton Fishing report for Kentucky Lake
    3-18-17

    Water Temp 50
    Lake level 355.70

It’s been some crazy weather the last week; hopefully that’s the end of that! I am seeing fishing improve everyday and I’m sure it will continue! The water conditions are good as of now in the Paris to New Johnsonville area.

I have been catching some solid 3 to 4 lb bass in the creeks and on the main lake. I’m basically using my Lucky Craft square bills to catch most of my fish. Although I have caught some fish on a ZOOM Lizard Green Pumpkin and a Z Craw. Im fishing the lizard and Z Craw on a 3/8 shaky head.

I am using Lucky Crafts 2.5 in Delta Crazy red craw, Chartreuse shad and Disco, In the Kelly J Flat I’m using Disco! It seems that I have to see what color they prefer the most that giving day. The Kelly J Disco and the 2.5, Delta Crazy red craw have been the most productive over all.

I’m fishing channel banks in the creeks and also the adjoining gravel flats. I’m fishing the crankbait on a Lews Glass rod and 15lb test Seaguar fluorocarbon. I really believe in the glass rod with my square bills. I feel that I will catch a lot of those sluggish fish due to the slower reflex action in a glass rod verses a graphite rod.

As the water warms up I will start using my Lucky Craft LV500 more. These Kentucky lake bass love vibrating baits this time of year. Again red patterns seem to produce best in cold water for me.

I really expect with the warmer weather we are going to get this week that the swim bait will be a big player for the bigger fish. I always keep ZOOM’s Swimmer in shad or Ayu rigged.
