Lake Cumberland fishing report for may 14,2017. The water temp is approaching 70 degrees and high. With the recent rains the water level is high but the debris has not been too bad on the lower end of the lake. The bass are starting to come off the beds and have been caught on normal early summer patterns. Topwater early then deeper approaches later in the morning. Decent numbers of crappie have been caught in major creeks fished close to cover in 5 to 15 ft of water on minnows and jigs.
Striper fishing has been fair at best. I will say it's been better than last may but still nothing like the numbers we was catching in April. The best technique has been planer boards fished 10 to 30 ft deep on the main lake. As soon as spawn ends fishing will be super good again.
With the recent high water the river level has finally stayed high for a extended amount of time. With that trout and stripers are up decent in the tail water. We have had some really good days lately fishing shad from the surface to 15 feet deep depending on the amount of water flow.
God Bless
