Bass fishing is fair. The fish are in shallow grass and wood and can be caught on a variety of baits. Early and late, fish a buzz bait, Pop R, Zoom Horny Toad and spinnerbait for aggressive fish. This pattern will work until the sun gets up on the water. After that, keep the Horny Toad handy, but the main pattern becomes flipping and pitching. Fish in the thickest cover you can find that has deeper water close by. Try the Zoom Old Monster and the Zoom Super Hog. A secondary pattern is fishing shallow ledges and brush in 8 to 12 feet of water. These fish are scattered due to the higher water levels, but when you find a school you can catch some nice fish on crank baits and Carolina rigs. Strike King Square Bill crank bait bluegill in a 1.5 ounce. This is a good bait to try after the sun is up.
Try the Strike King Redeye Shad Bait gold black back 0.25 ounce. On the north end it's hard to beat the Cowikee Creek and Wylaunnee Creek area. On the south end the fishing is a little tougher, with Pataula Creek and Thomas Mill Creek being the best producers.
