Bass fishing on Lanier remains very good. The lake level and water temps have remained fairly stable over the last week. The top water bite is still strong and as long as we don't get consistently hot temps, it should stick around for a while. The rains we received over the weekend from Cindy as well as the cool overnight temperatures since have helped keep the water temps from soaring. We have been working top water and swimbaits again over the past week. A chug bug and a Sammy have been my main choices for top water, and a Sebile for a swimbait. Focus on offshore structure with cover, such as brush on humps and points, for this approach. We are focusing on brush in 15 25 feet of water. The bite seems to be better in the middle of the day than any other time, but we have are still seeing some good morning schooling activity once again this week as well, for which top water and swimbaits have worked well. Windblown points have been the best places for this action. The fluke has continued to produce well also in the same type places. Work it fast and then kill it and let it settle. Vary the cadence until you find what the fish want. The fluke can also be a good option when there is no wind. We are starting to get some drop shot bites as well and we are going to this when the top water bite slows. I have been using the Lanier Baits offerings. Candy has seemed to be the best color this week. Here are my upcoming open dates: July: 5, 10, 12, 13, 14, 18, 20, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29 Give me a call and let’s get out and have some fun! Thanks to all and May God Bless.

This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Captain Ken West 404 561 2564. Contact us on our web site. www.bigfishon.com

Striper fishing is good. Live bait fishing with Blueback Herring is the most productive technique in the summer. Lively Blueback Herring is critical! There is a significant difference between live bait and lively bait. Stripers love to chase their bait and fresh lively bait can make a significant difference in getting a Striper to bite. A live herring is slowly swimming and a lively Herring is very active and digging down to get to colder water when you retrieve him. Never reuse a Herring! Change your bait often; every 10 to 15 minutes or less depending on the condition of the bait. If you pull a Herring up to check its condition always change it regardless of its condition. The act of pulling the bait up through the warm water stresses the bait. It is not unusual to have your Herring live longer at specific depths. This week Herring at 30 feet would stay lively up to 20 minutes while at 70 feet we should change baits every 3 minutes. We make our own water. We have installed whole house high flow carbon filters which removes chlorine and sediment up to 25 microns. The only thing we add to our water is one cup of salt for each gallon of water. We use water softener salt from Home Depot. Be careful when purchasing to ensure there are no additives to the salt. The lowest cost salt is usually the one without additives. The bait tank water temperature is also important. Add ice to your water to get your water temperature between 70 to 75 degrees. Because we have ice machines at our house we do not have to worry chlorine but if you use ice from the gas station you may want to add a squirt of Stress Coat which neutralizes the chlorine. Foam Off is another product you should have to use when you have foam (bubbles) in your bait tank. You only need a few drops to remove the foam. Ensuring you have lively bait to present is the single most important thing when fishing live bait in the summertime. Buy a few dozen extra Herring and change bait often. There are fish in every creek from Browns Bridge to the Dam. Start your day checking creek channels and deep water pockets in the mouths of the creeks. The lake is 6.1 feet below full pool and the water is clear on the main lake and lightly stained in the back of the creeks.
