    ALLI’s YEARLY BIRTHDAY TRIP!

Happy Birthday to Alli from her grandmother!

Alli is catching bait! While using the bait rig we caught Spanish Sardines, cigar minnows, blue runners, sand perch, small black fish, Spanish mackerel, rock bass, and annoying parrot fish! We kept everything except the blue runners and parrot fish! Parrot fish are small, but offer up a nice piercing bite. Alli grandmother Mrs. Mary DeYoung purchased her another birthday fishing day present with her much older twin, me!

This is a serious amount of bait on the surface! This is what I call a Target Rich Baiting up Kind Of a Situation! Yes we GOT LOTS OF BAIT!

Captain Kathy, Alli and Dan talk fishing while on the way to the snapper banks!

    GO Savannah Bananas!
    https://thesavannahbananas.com/

I had the honor of taking part of the crew that has been working this summer with the baseball team The Savannah Bananas. It has been a long time since I attended a baseball game such as this. However, after spending a day with this fun loving good looking group of people I decided there has got to be something to all of this besides just baseball. Well, my friends I did attend a game this past week. After three interesting endings the game was called due to weather. However, our group as well as many others even after the game was called still stayed. It was fun watching and talking with everyone. It was “bring your dog night” and that was as interesting as the game. There is a lot of truth about dogs looking like their owners. And there is also a lot of truth about who might be in charge in this relationship. It certainly in some cases, especially on this night, was not the owner for sure!

For supper I had a hot dog, French fries, and a beer. After all, isn’t that what you are supposed to have? So after another hotdog and beverage I decided it was time to go. So here’s what I want you to know. It certainly was not all about the game. The music and games they played were all pretty entertaining! The fact of the matter is I enjoyed it! Will I go back? Heck yah! Should you go? Heck yah! Hope to see you there! Captain Judy

    Artificial Reefs

These areas especially during this time of the year offer up a short boat ride to big fish! The artificial reefs are holding Spanish and king mackerel, barracuda, blue fish, sharks of all sizes, and I have even seen a few sail fish a jumping! Just fish regular, fish hard, and send pictures!

While pulling a 00 Clark spoon 12 feet behind a #1 planer, Scott Dillon Ashburn VA caught this nice Spanish mackerel. Captain Kathy is offering up her thumb up approval!

Dan caught a big toad fish also known as an oyster toad. The old toad fish is sporting a face that only a mother could love! Back in the old days, my father would skin up the toad fish making what mostly likely would be called today as “toad fingers!” What did it taste like? Chicken! I had a customer on the boat just the other day that told me that the toad fish is a cousin of the monk fish and are very good to eat! Of course I agreed and then I looked it up!

    This is a monk fish!

I didn’t catch this monk fish and they are not usually found in these waters. I found a picture of it on the internet. According to what I read, its meat has a texture like lobster’s does. It certainly is ugly enough! And I would have to agree it most likely is a 3rd cousin to the old Savannah, Georgia toad fish aka oyster toad!

Now, as usual, Alli DeYoung has hooked up another big fish! And Captain Kathy is clearing the lines!

Dan DeYoung is smiling! And who is smiling at? His Daughter ALLI!

Younger twin Alli, and much older twin Judy! Hey, I finally figured out how minutes we are apart in our ages. However, after doing the math I prefer the term “years” instead of minutes! And the number is 51 years!

Alli is fishing and catching! Dan and Judy are smiling and cheering her on!! Check out how calm the sea conditions were! It was beautiful on our fish day! Finally after three tries we finally got out! I now say, “Third trip the charm!” The best news about all of this trying to go fishing is that I got to spend more time with the now more than famous Alli/Dan father daughter fishing team! And I loved that! Believe me they are the talk of the fishing town!

This is first of many genuine red snapper that Alli caught! These fish are also called sows! All red snapper were released unharmed back to the wild!

Alli DeYoung with yet another bigger genuine red snapper!

Captain Judy, Dan DeYoung and his daughter Alli are holding yet another large snapper!

Alli DeYoung holding a nice amberjack! Thumbs up from Captain Kathy Brown!

Alli DeYoung show time! Yes she is number one! And in my book number one all the way around! Most all the local fishermen do not eat keep or eat amberjack. This fish has very noticeable white worms embedded in it meat. We always explain to our customers and most of them say, “Well, it is just extra protein!”

Alli’s amberjack swimming back to abyss. Bye Bye!

Alli is fishing and catching! And I am watching! This is what twins do!

Dan DeYoung with a nice amberjack! Also known as a reef donkey!

Another reef donkey! Alli DeYoung, her father Dan, and Captain Judy Helmey

Alli DeYoung with yet another genuine red snapper! And the federal government says there aren’t any and that is why we can’t keep them! Another grand decision made by the government gone wrong! I call it the Kudzu Effect! What is this? Well, many years ago the kudzu plant better known as a vine was brought into our area to grow, harvest, and use to feed cows. However, this did not work and now this vine grows unmercifully everywhere. Nothing eats it and it is hard to kill. The fact of the matter is cut it in half and then it grows two ways at once!

The kudzu plant is known as the “vine that ate the south!”

Alli and Dan DeYoung hooked up at the same time! And Dan’s fish is smaller! I didn’t mention this to Dan, Alli did!

Yes I always like to get in on the pictures! I call this Alli’s fish is much bigger picture!

Dan DeYoung with another nice red snapper!

Well, this is Alli DeYoung’s last big fish for the day! A nice big amberjack!

We also caught some nice vermilion snapper better known by us old school fishermen as b-liners!

    Simply Majestic!
On our way home this beautiful sea bird stayed with us as we made way through the sound! Every time I see something like this I once again think about how lucky I am! Most people don’t get the chance to experience these sites like I have for all of these years. I am so happy my memory is still in full tact!!

Here’s my latest picture taken of a man of war jelly fish! I don’t know if you can see or not but the tentacles have small fish swimming in and around them. They think that they are safe! However, they are not. When the jelly fish gets hungry it will just wrap its tentacles around the small fish and literally **** the life out of it! The jelly fish tentacles are supposedly protection for the smaller fish. It is also a target rich environment for the jelly fish when it comes to having a snack or two

Here’s another picture I took of a man of war (jelly fish). As you can see the coloring is quite different. It doesn’t even look real, but it is for sure!

Here’s a close up of a man of war jelly fish that has drawn it tentacles up. The more the pull their tentacles in the bigger they get on the surface. They drop their tentacles while in search of food. In some cases and depending on depth of the water, their tentacles can drag the ocean floor. The bigger the man of war the longer it tentacles! Stay away!
