  • Daytona New Smyrna Backcountry Mosquito Lagoon Orlando

Summer2017 continues with warm water temperatures, tons of baitfish schools, lots of variety with species biting throughout the backcountry here in Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River at New Smyrna Beach and shallow water fishing on the lagoon grass flats. Most trips in the backcountry give up some surprise catches, like the couple juvenile Goliath Grouper we caught recently, and the Scorpion Fish we got a couple weeks ago. Along with the Redfish and Seatrout we regularly catch, it has been a banner year for Snapper, most are Mangroves, but also catching good looking Lanes and Muttons, lots of fun Jacks mostly Crevalle but also quite a few Horse Eyes around this summer. Sheepshead, Whiting, Croakers, Ladyfish, Snook and other shave also been regular catches all summer. Regular summer client Jon and family from Georgia out with me again had another fun trip, with all the usual fish, Jon caught the big Trout along a deep mangrove island drop off……………

New client Stan from Daytona and his son Alex had a great Lagoon flats fishing trip, we poled, hunted and sight fished Redfish on the flats catching 4 up to 27”, then switched to live baiting Seatrout on the drop offs later in the morning catching about a dozen specks up to 22”, Stan got the biggest Red………………

Noel from Dallas out on a recent backwaters trip with one of a few Snook he and friend Angelo caught along with the usual mixed bag fish………………

Repeat client Joe from Melbourne, Florida out with his family on a Lagoon trip catching mostly Trout on live bait, but we also spent a little time hunting the flats and Joe sight cast a good Redfish………..

    ……..and also a good shallow water Seatrout……………….

Jack Crevalle are a dependable backcountry rod bending, drag pulling, entertaining fun most every trip here on the lagoon waters, Dexter from Georgia with a fun one……………...

    The Prop Stop!!

I have a collection of old props aka wheels around my house. And just about every one of them, if they could talk, would have an interesting story to tell. Take for instance the prop in the picture was at one time on an old 29 foot wooden boat. Now, you are not going to believe... read more

    Vertical Jigging Tips

As summer progresses and we start to see the water get really-warm from top to bottom the fish many times move into the deepest parts of many reservoirs forcing you to look for deep fish. The problem is deep fish that are positioned on the bottom are not easily enticed to feed... read more

    Summertime Shadows

It’s no secret that the heat of the summer forces you to look for different structure and find something that is a reason for fish to hold on a spot. If your observant enough you can target the shadows as the corners and edges around cover hide the sun from the bass and helps... read more
