LAKE LANIER IS DOWN 5.3 FEET, THE CREEKS ARE STAINED AND THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR & 60’s

Things on the lake have remained much the same since my last report. There has been very little change in water level or surface temperature. As we predicted, the stable weather we have been enjoying has really made for some great fishing. We have had some excellent days and heavy sacks of fish in the recent days. The fish are still spread out both in the mouths of the creeks and further back in as well. The schooling bite has been strong again this week both just after daylight and often through the day. Most of the activity appears to be around points and humps, but there is also plenty of over the channel schooling as well. We have started to work some steeper rock as well as docks in the creek pockets for some bites. A Sebile and a jerk bait are working pretty well on the schooling fish. If the fish are chasing smaller bait fish or you are having a hard time getting the fish to commit to swim bait or jerk bait offerings try a Spy Bait. Count it down and work it slowly. A Picasso Shake Down Head with a finesse worm and a jig are still good for some bites on rock and clay points as well as in the brush. We are starting to get a spoon bite on some days as well out in 35 to 40 feet at the mouths of ditches. The last 3 techniques along with a SuperSpin will continue to get more productive as we progress into late fall and early winter. Now is a great time to learn a variety of techniques and approaches. Here is a list of my upcoming open dates in November: 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 24, 28, 29 and 30. Also, if you want a trip over Thanksgiving Week, please contact me NOW. Those dates always go fast. Give me a call and let's get out and have some fun! Thanks to all and May God Bless.

Striper fishing is fair. Not much has changed this week as the record high temperatures continues. The fish are just not aggressive and we are in desperate need or some colder temperatures to fire up the striper bite. The good news is the forecast is for cooler temperatures. Your best approach is to fish the creeks with the greatest concentration of bait. Use your Lowrance HDS and locate the areas with the greatest of bait. Deploy weighted free lines and planner boards in addition to a couple of down rods. Look for schooling fish in the main lake channel and pockets from Flat Creek to the dam. There are also fish in the North end creeks and both rivers. The water temperature is in the mid 60’s.The water is lightly stained in the creeks and clear on the main lake. The lake is 5.5 feet below full pool. To book your guide trip call us at 404 561 2564 or contact us on our web site. www.bigfishonguide.com

This Lake Lanier Crappie report is from Dan Saknini, member of the Lanier Crappie Angler’s Club. See our club’s website, http://www.laniercrappieanglers.net/

Water temperature is about 67 degrees. As to be expected, you will notice cooler water temperatures the further north you go in the rivers. Fishing is good and getting better. The pattern is simple: submerged standalone brush piles in fifteen to twenty five feet should be your main targets. The main river channel north of Laurel Park on the Chattahoochee side and the main river channel in the Chestatee are both are producing well. Having said that, don’t overlook Four Mile Creek and Six Mile Creek and stay in fifteen feet or greater depths. We are also noticing that some fish are moving to deeper docks in main river channels. You will notice a slight change in the color of the water as you go further north. This should work to your advantage as crappie prefer slightly stained water. Jiffy Jigs, Bobby Garland, Mr. Crappie and Panfish Assassins have all been working well. If you prefer fishing with live bait, minnows are also working with a number six long shank hook and a slip cork. If you’re not familiar with slip corks, instructions on how to use them will be on the package. Tight lining while trolling is another way to catch crappie on brush, using a jig tipped with minnows ten feet below the surface. This will require ten to twelve foot rods parallel with the water, with up to four rods on each side of the trolling motor. Your line should be vertical while going at a very, very low speed. If your line is angled or horizontal, you are going too fast.

Enjoy fishing among the fall colors that have finally arrived on the lake. Stay safe on the water and wear your life jacket!
