LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, 60’S


Lake Oconee is full, the water temperature is 64 to 68 degrees. Most of the lake is clear with some stain up the rivers.


Bass fishing is fair. A lot of bait is moving into Lick Creek as well as Sugar Creek. The Large Mouths will be following them into the creeks. Small crank baits fished around docks and wood structure will draw a strike. Match the color of the bait to the color of the water. Most of the fish are in the 5 to 10 foot water column. With the Lowrance Structure Scan technology anglers can look under the lakes many docks and count the fish. Not all docks have bass on them and angler fish instead of search first. There are a lot of fish in the middle of the coves in the middle of the lake. These fish are not relating to anything, so they are hard to target. They can be caught with a crank bait fish from the 10 to 15 ft. water depth. They will show up on your Lowrance. When you see them you can target them with a crank bait. There is still a buzz bait bite on sea walls and rip rap from the 44 bridge to river bend.


Striper fishing is good to very good. The fish are starting to show up in their usual fall locations. River Bend, Little Stone Mt. as well as in the coves in Richland creek. Use your Lowrance to locate the schools in the middle of the coves and you can catch them with spoons and live bait. It will get better as the water cools.


Crappie fishing is good to very good. The fish are still on the submerged timber from 5 to 15 ft. deep. Use your Lowrance to locate the trees with the most fish on them and then drop live bait or jigs into the top of the tree. Long line trolling will also produce good number when you troll over the timber.
