LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, 50’S BY CAPTAIN MARK SMITH, REEL TIME GUIDE SERVICE.


Lake Oconee is full, the water temperature is 51 54 deg. Most of the lake is clear with some stain up the rivers. Bass fishing is fare. The best bite this week has come on the spoon fished on the humps and road beds on the south end of the lake. Use your Lowrance to locate the fish on the sides of the humps and then drop a spoon into them. Find the bait and use the Lowrance Structure Scan and Down Scan technology to cut the search time. Once you find the shad fish a ½ ounce Flex It spoon on 10 pound test line on a medium action rod. You can also find some fish in the river bend area of the lake just of the river channel. These fish will take a spoon also. They will be as deep as 30ft. Some of the bigger fish have come in this area. We are looking at another very cold weather front to come through this week. Air temperatures are going to drop fast and this will bring very high pressure to the south. Fish will be very inactive with this weather.


Striper fishing is good to very good. The fish are starting to show up all over the lake, the water quality is good lake wide and the fish are from one end of the lake to the other. Use your Lowrance to locate the schools and you can catch them with spoons and live bait. I have been using bass minnows but shad will also work. This is some of the best fishing of the year don't miss out on the great fishing right now


Crappie fishing is slow. The fish have moved into deeper water and out to the mouths of the creeks. We have seen some fish come from as deep as 30 feet. These deeper fish are coming on minnows fished just off the river channel. The timber in Sugar creek has been the best producer in the last few days, you can also find fish between the bridges in Lick creek. If the water worms up the fishing will improve.
