The Arctic Blast that hit our part of the State last week kept us off the Lake until Saturday. The below freezing air temperatures lowered the Lake water temperatures from the mid 50's to the mid 40's and we were concerned it may have totally turned off the Catfish bite. Well....our concerns were completely eliminated by mid morning as the Catfish not only bit good, but we caught on average the largest fish of the early Winter Season! 😊 Almost all our catch were Large Blue Cats ranging from 2 lbs. to 10 lbs. and we filled the Ice Chest, 5 Gallon Bucket and had to throw a few on the boat floor!!! Seems that the bigger fish really get more aggressive as the water gets colder.
We are continuing to fish in the heavy timber in the Crab Creek area on the Richland Creek Arm of the Lake. Most of our fish on Saturday came from water depths ranging from 24' to 30' . Danny Kings Punch Bait on a # 4 Treble Hook as well as Chicken Gizzards fished on a # 5 Circle Hook was our bait and rig of choice. We had to get the net our numerous times and the adrenalin was flowing!
