LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 14.1 FEET, 40’S, CLEAR
Bass fishing is slow. With the warm weather scheduled to come in this weekend, bass fishing should pick up a little. Look for any rocks that the sun has been shinning on as this area will warmer by a degree or two and is bound to hold a few fish. Use small crank baits like a ¼ ounce Rat T Trap in chrome back or a #4 Shad Rap in the silver color. Work this bait using 8 pound test Sufix line. Work it bait slow and if there are any docks near to the rock, work the dock area also. Add the small silver spoon and later each day go to the deeper brush piles and on points. Anglers can see the fish that are dead on the bottom and the Lowrance Down Scan beams can see them one inch off the bottom.

Line side fishing is fair. The cold weather has trigger a major shad kill. This kill is the biggest we have seen in a few years. The good news is it hit quick and should be a shorter kill then we have seen in past year. There is still a bite out there but nothing like we had back in December. We are catching fish on many different techniques. Early in morning we are doing well using shad on planner board, free lines and even down lines where getting a bite or two right at sun up. By 9:30 am, the live bait bite really slows down. This is when you want to swap over to your umbrella rigs. The umbrella rig bite is the strongest bite going right now. We have been doing very well pulling umbrella rigs between 9 am to 1 pm mid lake. The key to catching these fish is your speed. 2.5 miles an hour has been the best for me. The shad kill will make fishing a little difficult for the next couple of weeks.
