  • Lake Allatoona Fishing Report - GA

LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 9.28 FEET, 40’S, CLEAR

This Bass fishing is from Matt Driver.

Bass fishing is fair. The lake is up from the rain and the rivers are stained. Use small finesse worms and jigs and be patient. Dark colors in both baits will be best. Spoons on and around the old marina tires will be fair, and drop the baits all the way to the bottom. Work the spoons in the 1/2 ounce size and Sidewinders and use 12 pound test line and a bait casting rod and work the bait slowly from the bottom up through the fish. Shad schools will be important and if the shad are smaller, go to the smaller spoons later each day. Use Stanley jig in brown and blacks in the 1/2 ounce jig and a larger Pro Pork Trailer by Uncle Josh, on the heavy cover. The Float n Fly and the jerk bait bites are getting good. As water temps drop into the low 50’s and high 40’s, fish activity tends to slow, but the bite can still be good. I am targeting main lake bluff walls and secondary points near channel swings. This time of year, the bite can be hit or miss, especially after a strong cold front where we have blue bird skies. Many times when the bite gets tough we use the sonar and fish the drop shot. I use 6 pound Sunline Super FC Sniper fluorocarbon with a 3/16 or 1/2 ounce weight, a Gamakatsu drop shot hook and a Big Bite Baits Limit Maker worm in silver smoke. The bite can be light, so be on guard. Another great way to catch bass this month is on a Picasso Lures Tungsten Ned’s Head and a Big Bite Limit Maker or a 3 inch Trick Stick. Constantly be on the lookout for schools of fish. Lastly, a great bait for multi species is the 1/2 ounce spoon. Spotted bass, hybrid and white bass love the spoon. Look for these schools in longer creeks in 15 to 25 feet of water. Target areas from Stamp Creek north to Little River. Have fun, and never fish alone this time of year because hypothermia can be a killer.

Line side fishing is slow for now. This will change soon. The amount of rain we had yesterday probably stain the lake from the north end to Bartow Carver by now. And probably the south end as well. This is a very good thing. Stained and muddy water temperatures rises quickly compared to Clearwater. The temperatures next week are going to be in the mid 60s. Throw that on top of stained muddy water and we will see a five degree rise in temps. The shad kill will end and the bite will return. Spring is almost here and so is great fishing.

Based on the Fish and Gamer Forecaster, the middle morning to one pm is the best period this weekend. After lunch, fishing will be slow.
