LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 9.1 FEET, 50’S, CLEAR


Bass fishing is on fire. March is definitely one of the best months of the year to catch a quality bass. March madness truly fits Lake Allatoona this month. Fish are on the move and heading shallow quick since we had such a warm February. Even though I believe we will have some cold days in the month of March, I do not think it will slow the bite at all. This month is all about covering water. Spinner baits, scroungers, Alabama rigs and jerk baits. My weapons of choice are a white with white willow leaf blades for the spinner bait. Points in laydown trees are the best areas to target. Next is the scrounger. I throw a 1/4 ounce tipped with a big bite Alewife 4 inch jerk minnow fishing on 10 Sunline sniper fluorocarbon line and a glass composite medium cranking rod. Make along cast and just slowly reel it back. The scrounger may get several bites before the fish actually load up. The Alabama rig has 1/8 ounce heads and white Big Bite cane thumpers. I actually fish this very similar to the scrounger in cast and retrieve. Both Alabama rig and scrounger are open water baits. As far as the jerk bait those We are using a Spro McStick and one fish are slightly deeper the Spro MCrip. We keep both baits tied on and switch back and forth till the fish show me witch ones is preforming best that day. We cast all our jerk baits on Sunline Sniper 8 pound test areas around Illinois Creek, the mouth of a little river, and the Sweetwater Creek area have been really productive. Get out and take a kid fishing with you. Now 30 fish days are not out of the question.

Line side fishing is good. There have been some good reports from both the north end and south end of the lake this week for good numbers of hybrids, stripers and white bass. The better bite has been on small gizzards and thread fins fished on free lines and planner board. Both ends of the lake are holding decent numbers. The south end of the lake seems to be better for hybrids. While the north end of the lake seems to be fishing better for stripers and white bass. We look for most of the fish to migrate north in the next few days and start staging for their annual spawn run. Spring is almost here and it's time to get back to fishing.
