  • Lake Oconee Fishing Report - GA

LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, 50’S TO 60’S BY CAPTAIN MARK SMITH, REEL TIME SERVICE.

Captain Mark Smith of Reel Time Service, 404 803 0741, reeltime@bellsouth.net

Lake Oconee is full, the water temperature is 58 62 degrees. There is a heavy stain up the rivers, then stained to the river bend area of the lake. Richland creek is clear.

Bass fishing is picking up. Spinner baits have been the best producers over the past week. Fish them from the middle of the coves to the back. Docks and wood structure have been the best producers. Match your spinner bait color to the water color. White/chartreus seem to be the best all around. Jigs fished under docks will also draw a few strikes. Texas rigged worms in green or pumpkin (or a combination) fished under docks on the Richland Creek side of the lake. Most of these docks are in the middle of the coves to the back of the coves.

Striper fishing is improving. The best location has been around the jumping rock area on the south end in the afternoon. Use your Lowrance to locate the schools and you can catch them with spoons and live bait. We have been using bass minnows but shad will also work. These fish are heading to the dam for the spring run. They will show up any day now. Flat lines have been the best producer.

Crappie fishing is good. The fish have started to move into the creeks. Pushing (spider rigging) have been putting the fish in the cooler. Match your color jig to the water color. I like to tip my jig with a minnow. The big fish bite is here. Now is the time to catch a 2 plus fish. Long lining started to produce really well in the afternoon.

Make sure you stop by Sugar Creek Marina and pick up your spoons and all your tackle needs. You can also book your crappie and striper trips as well as on the water Lowrance classes, with Reel Time Service at 404 803 0741 or reeltime@bellsouth.net
