LAKE RUSSELL IS FULL, CLEAR, 70’S

Bass fishing is fair. Spotted bass are still roaming all over the lake, especially around the rocks either in or near deep water. Top water baits like the Zara Spook and Pop R will be productive during the major feeding periods mid morning. Daytime anglers are still picking apart every piece of submerged cover with jigs and Weedless Wonder worm rigs and a green pumpkin Zoom Fork Tail worm. Afternoons, use the same worm on a Carolina rig. Slow cranking is will work over isolated stump fields in 10 to 14 feet of water. During the summer months, changing baits and patterns throughout the day will be necessary to bag a limit of good fish. Try to try down size those baits. The Rapala #5 or #7 Shad Raps and Rapala DT10 are excellent crank baits to use over the stumps. Carolina rigged Zoom pumpkinseed lizard in the four inch and 6 inch sizes. The new Lowrance FishReveal software for the Gen 3, Elite Ti and CARBON machines makes spotting the fish on the DOWN SCAN super easy. The software is free on the Lowrance web site. The biggest key this week will be to slow down the baits and make several presentations to each area.
