Lake Fork is right at full pool. There is still a handful of fish spawning. In fact, we got 3 fish over 25 inches on beds in a 24 hour period earlier in the week, including a 10 pounder. But the spawn is definitely coming to an end. Most of the bass we are seeing in the shallows are guarding fry or looking for perch to eat. There are tons of perch beds all over the lake right now. The water is clear even in some of the northern areas. The grass is really looking good. I'm seeing lots of pepper grass, lily pads, cattails, and hydrilla.

Sight fishing is my specialty, so I've been fishing for bedding fish even when it may not be the best pattern. Last trip it definitely wasn't the best pattern. During the big tournaments, the shallow fish like to hide. The Legend tournament was out there this weekend.

May is a time when you can catch fish on many different patterns. There's a shad spawn, so you can catch fish on the banks at daybreak on topwaters, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, or just about anything that resembles a shad. After that, the bite slows down considerably. But you can catch a few fish if you go a little deeper throughout the day. The afternoon/evening bite is better than the morning bite, with the exception of the first 30 minutes to hour of daylight.
I've been fishing just about every day since the first week of March. So I'm taking a few days off. After Memorial Day, I plan to get back on night fishing. May through early July are my best times for night-fishing. A huge percentage of the really big bass have become nocturnal. So I prefer to fish at night in pursuit of the big ones. I recommend booking early to get the best dates. If you would like to book a trip, you can see my schedule and book your trip online at http://www.bassfishing.org/go

Good fishing and good luck. You can't catch them if you don't go.
