  • Savannah Fishing Report - GA Part One

While offshore fishing with Captain Judy Helmey of Miss Judy Charters Dan Roney caught this large Jack Crevalle. It hit a small live sand perch while fishing in 115 feet of water at the Savannah Snapper Banks. Once hooked up it then proceeded to put up a pretty darn good fight! And the best news is that it was released back and is in the swimming wild mode once again!

Live Shrimp Are Fish Head Turners!
Our captains are able to purchase and/or catch their own shrimp. Live shrimp changes everything when it comes to a spotted sea trout bite. This is a fish known for killing or attacking first before eating. The K 9 teeth that this fish has allow them to grab, stab, and eat quickly. However, for the one at the other end of the rod I suggest giving this fish an extra bit of time to eat. And I also suggest cranking not yanking. Captain Matt Williams teaches his customers the cranking not yanking spotted sea trout catching method. Basically, it is not setting the hook. It is cranking the hook into place without any yanking involved!

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Jim Logan Augusta Georgia his daughter Katie Logan (gray tank top) and Kelsey and Kurtis Logan (married green/red shirt) had themselves a catching ball! Or should I say, “A rod bending experience!”

Katie is holding a nice red fish that she hooked up, fought, and released back to the wild. Check out the tail of this fish. The tail section was either a birth defect, but most likely sometimes during it earlier stage of life it had quite tussle with a much larger fish. If the predator had gone for the fish’s head this picture might have not been possible. However, the spot on this fish’s tail saved its life. Its fake eye was more appealing than the real thing! My father always said, “The number of spots on a red fish’s tail determines the amount of times that it has escaped from a predator attack!” From this picture it looks like it only has been attacked once. What does this mean? Well, the fish did learn a lot from its first attack making it a very smart and it is still swimming. So therefore it is doing something right!

Jim Logan and his nice looking fishing family inshore fished with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters. What did they catch? Whiting, shark, spotted sea trout, and red fish!

Sometimes it is actually crazy alive with marine life at our dock. There are lots of sea birds, blue herons, crabs, and heck now we have an eagle that occasionally makes a grand fly over. And then there are two visiting dolphins that we have named Bubbles and Popeye. Now I would like you to meet our resident stingray Mrs. Fredia!
