  • Lake Lanier Fishing Report - GA

LAKE LANIER IS 1.2 FEET OVER FULL, THE CREEKS ARE STAINED AND THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR THE RIVERS AND UP LAKE COVES ARE STAINED. 80’S DEGREES.

This report brought to you by: Jimbo Mathley Jimbo on Lanier www.jimboonlanier.com Water Temp 83 degrees

The surface temps are around 83 degrees in the mornings. The lower lake is clear in most areas, and I have not been in the upper areas, but I think it's safe to assume the river areas still remain stained given the regular afternoon rains we have been receiving.

The top water and swimbait bite has remained good even with the rising temperatures. The baits of choice seem to vary each day, but something in that category seems to work every day. As usual, when the sun is up, the bite is better. Baits like a Sebile, fluke, Gun Fish, Chug Bug, Pencil Popper, and a Vixen have been good choices. We are focusing on points and humps with brush in anywhere from 15 30 feet in both the main lake and creeks. I am starting to incorporate a drop shot at times when the top water bite is tough, as well as a Spybait also. The fish do change positions on the structure each day, but those fish will be somewhere on or near the key structure and cover. We stay on the move with this bite and hit a lot of spots looking for the active fish. Please get with me soon if you would like a trip this summer. Following is a list of my upcoming open dates July: 12(PM), 18, 19, 20, 30, and 31. I'm also booking for August. Give me a call NOW and book your summer trip dates are going fast.

Striper fishing is good. Summer is here, and the fish are moving south and deep. The majority of the fish are south of Chestatee River which is exactly where they should be this time of year. The Stripers have also moved off the points and the back of the creeks and are focused on creek and river channels. We are also finding fish in pockets and drainage ditches off the creek and river channels. Use your Lowrance HDS to search for these suspended fish from 30 to 60 feet deep over a 50 to 100 foot bottom. Be sure to use the Lowrance Structure Scan technology and you can count the fish in the schools up to 200 feet from your boat. Down rods with Blueback Herring has taken over as your primary technique for catching these deep water fish. We are using a 5 to 8 feet of 12 pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader and a two ounce slip egg sinker tied to 20 pound Seaguar main line for our down rods. If you want to fish while you are searching an area the Umbrella rig is a good choice. Pull the umbrella rigs at 80 to 100 feet behind the boat at a speed of 3 miles per hour. When you find them, you can pull your Umbrella rigs up and put out baits or continue to use you Umbrella rigs to catch fish. We have also had some success with lead core line this week pulled at 8 colors. All of the creeks south of Browns Bridge are holding fish. Baldridge Creek, Shoal Creek, Young Deer Creek, Six Mile Creek, Two Mile Creek, Orr Creek and Flat Creek are some of the creeks where fish have been caught over the past week. The current water temperature is in the mid 80’s.
