LAKE LANIER IS DOWN 1.55 FEET, THE CREEKS ARE STAINED AND THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR THE RIVERS AND UP LAKE COVES ARE STAINED. 60’S DEGREES.

The lake is clear on the lower end, and starting to show some initial signs of turnover at and above Brown’s Bridge. Overall, the lake is in good shape and starting to cool. We have dropped 4 degrees in surface temperature since last week. The fish are really in their fall patterns now and we have enjoyed some great results in the last few weeks. The pattern changed a good bit this week from week's past and we made the adjustment and stayed on 'em! Rock points is where it's been this week. We have been working shallower rocky points with spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs, and worms for the majority of our fish. We have enjoyed some top water activity at times over brush, but the aforementioned baits have ruled. When the fish are active, the spinnerbait and crankbaits are hard to beat. You can cover water quickly and find the aggressive fish. When the bite slows, switch to a worm and jig presentation in those same areas and back out from the shallows. The chasing fish have been in 10 feet or less, and the worm and jig fish have been more in the 12 to 20 foot range. Focus on the shallower rock points in both the mouths of creeks as well as the main lake. Also the mouths of creek pockets in the first half of the major creeks have been productive as well. It is really fun out there right now gang! October/November/December are some of my favorite months on the lake. I hope you will make plans to come join me. Come enjoy some fantastic fall fishing! Here are my open dates for October: 29(PM), 31(PM). Nov: 1, 5, 9, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30. I am also booking dates for November. Lots of great fishing ahead of us in the coming months, both morning and afternoon! Give me a call and let’s fish! Thanks to all and May God Bless!

This Lake Lanier Striper report is from Big Fish on Guide Service. To book your trip call Captain Ken at 404 561 2564 or contact us on our web site. www.bigfishonguide.com

Striper fishing is good. We have several patterns going on right now. We still have a summer time pattern with fish at 40 to 50 feet deep over a 70 to 100 foot bottom. Look for one or two fish in pockets off the river and creek channels and deploy your down rods at 35 to 50 feet depending on where you mark the fish. Do not be surprised to see multiple fish coming out of the trees or off the bottom to attack your Herring. There is also a shallow water bite off main lake and creek points and humps. Use both down rods and free lines to target these fish and focus on a depth of 20 to 40 feet. The Umbrella rig is also an option to fish these points and humps. Set your rigs at 100 feet back and troll at 3 MPH. You will also pick up a spotted bass or two as they are mixed in with the stripers. Keep your eyes on the water looking for surface activity? You should carry several spinning rods with the basic top water baits tied on including Chug Bugs, Red Fins and Spooks and a 1/2 ounce buck tail jig with a small fluke. The top water bite should pick up this week. Focus on reef markers and long sloping points with your top water baits. We have been fishing the south end of the lake but a good number of fish have started to move north. Fish the creeks where you find a large concentration of bait fish. The water temperature is in the high to mid 60’s. The water is lightly stained in the creeks and clear on the main lake. The lake is 1.6 feet below full pool. This Lake Lanier Crappie fishing report is from Dan Saknini, member of the Lanier Crappie Angler’s Club. See our club’s website, www. laniercrappieanglers.net

Lake Lanier’s water level is just a little more than a foot below full pool. Water temperature is around 72 degrees, and with cooler days and nights, it will continue to fall. October and November are typically good months for crappie fishing, with options of fishing standalone brush piles at a variety of depths as well as fishing docks. We are beginning to catch some bigger fish now. Expect this pattern to continue over the next several weeks. Certain docks and certain brush piles are holding bigger fish. Though you will find fish on both deep and shallow brush piles, it is harder to detect the bite the deeper they are. For that reason, some of us have downsized to a two pound high visibility yellow “Vicious Fishing Panfish” line. I HIGHLY recommend it! The quality and the strength of the line is very impressive. Having said that, if you are a regular fisherman, make it a habit to replace your line once a month. This is an inexpensive fishing line, and worth the effort. The fish are holding tight on standalone brush piles at twenty to twenty five foot depths and the smaller fish are shallower. Your fishing line will at some point come into contact with the brush pile, which is another reason that maintaining fresh line may save you from losing a few fish. If you are not losing jigs occasionally, you are not getting into the brush piles far enough to trigger a bite. A hair jig is my “go to” bait for fishing brush piles this time of year. The feathers seem to give it more presence, which catches the fish’s interest. One twenty fourth ounce is our go to jig. On a windy day, use the double rig method (tying two jigs to your line about a foot apart), or use a one sixteenth ounce if you prefer a single rig. When the bite is really subtle, an old seasoned fisherman’s trick is to use a closed faced Zebco 33 reel and while retrieving the jig, rest the line on the trigger finger of the hand holding the rod while applying slight pressure to the line with the thumb of the same hand. Make sure you are not interrupting the flow of the retrieve. This will help you feel the bite more effectively. Be safe on the water. Wear your life jacket, it can save your life.
