Fishing Friends,


Last week was one of those weeks where you wonder..."Was I really supposed to fish?" I had a couple from Houston scheduled to fish with us on Monday & Tuesday, but the Gentleman had a really bad cold and had to cancel at the last minute. I was not really disappointed as the temperatures were in the low 30's in the AM and never raised above the 40's both days. I did manage to get in one trip on Thursday (More on that in a moment) and then the Winds, Showers and Arctic Cold temperatures hit us on Friday and Saturday, and the trips were cancelled for the week. Oh well...there will be plenty of fishing trips with better weather in just a few short weeks!


On Thursday, a threesome and I did a Noon start time and the NW Wind was really blowing and the Lake was rough. We decided to trust the forecast that the Wind would gradually lay and there would be a nice warm up. The forecast was correct and the Afternoon turned out pleasant and warmed to around 60 degrees. The fishing was a little slower than usual, but the quality of Catfish we caught was good with two fish just under the Slot and twenty four more "Eaters " in the 1-5 lb. range. We caught most of our fish along the Richland Creek Channel in 35 feet of water on Danny Kings Punch Bait.


Wintertime fishing is often "iffy" with the weather conditions and temperatures often dictating that a trip be cancelled or rescheduled. Adam and I will always call one off when the fishing will be too tough, unsafe or just not FUN! But, when the conditions are right, it's one of the best times of the year to load the freezer with filets as the Catfish never seem to stop biting in the colder months!
