Pickwick Lake Elevation 410
BASS
Pickwick Lake is starting to look normal for this time of year again . This time of year is good for catching quality fish but it can be really slow. Keep it pretty simple and cover as much water as possible moving your bait slow. Carolina rigged Strike King Rage Craws work well right now on main lake point and flats. Early in the morning fish with a Red Eye Shad on main lake flats. A Strike King Lucky Shad crank bait in a crawfish color also works well, use the Lucky Shad in the backs of creeks up to the creek mouth. Just remember when cranking a crank bait to keep it slow this time of year and use a medium action rod for best results, I use a Lews Cranking rod with a Lews high speed reel ( I just have to reel slower to compensate). Rock bluffs and grassy areas are still holding fish.
Stripers
Stipers are through out the river and lake, it is just hard to fish for them right now. You can occasionally catch some on deep diving crank baits around the Dam. The good news is that stripers will bite better later on. Over the next few weeks I expect to see some of the biggest stripers I will see all year and numbers will increase after that.
Sauger
The standard way of fishing with a sauger jig in water as shallow as 15' and water as deep as 60' will continue to work throughout March. Look forward to catching them on crank baits in the next few weeks.
