    LAKE ALLATOONA IS FULL, 70S

This Bass fishing report is by Matt Driver.

Bass fishing is god. Lots the shad in pockets and we are starting to see some surface activity. The bite is different than normal. It’s a bite delayed in my opinion. We have switched up tactics a bit lately. We have been using soft swim baits and the drop shot. We use a 3/16 tungsten round ball jig head from Picasso with a 4 inch Big Bite Cane Thumper or a Keitech swim bait. Long cast count it down about 8 seconds and reel it back slowly. On the drop shot we are using a 3/16 ounce drop shot white and a size one Gamakatsu drop shot hook. We are casting it and working it back along the bottom. The bite has been subtle. We expect the top water to be great over the next few weeks. Red Top and the Iron Hill areas have been best.

Lines sides fishing is good. The white bass have started their spawn runs up both the Etowah and Little River. And the Hybrids and Stripers are soon to follow. The river bite should stay decent into the middle of April. The main lake is also fishing well. The fish are starting from Little River Bridge up to the delta. And from the S Turns to Kellogg’s Creek. There is also a decent south end bite going on right now from Iron Hill to the bay out in from of 3rd Army. The fish on the main lake are up in the water column and are very hard to mark on the Lowrance 2D sonar. If you have a Lowrance with side scan you can locate these fish by running your side scan setting on 60 feet on both sides. These has been working Great for me on my Lowrance 12 in Touch. If you don't have side scan, the best way to find these fish is to put out a spread of planner boards and free lines and pull the banks and open water until you get bit. Planner boards and freeing live shad on the main lake has been our best bite. And are a counting for at least 95% of our catch on both Lake Allatoona and Carters Lake. Small to middle size gizzard shad and thread fins has been the ticket.
