  • Pickwick Lake Fishing Report - TN

Fishing in June below Pickwick Dam will be productive as long as you get out early. The top water bite is excellent throughout the month of June but sometimes it is just the first and last hour of daylight. Its going to get hot out here so to catch bass on top water baits I would be on a point or creek mouth by at least 5:30am. Baits such as the Spit-N-King work well in these areas. Buzz baits also work well in some situations. The Strike King Lucky Strike has also worked well and they have a few new colors. I like to fish all of these top water baits on a Lews medium rood with a fast retrieve Lews reel. As the day goes on it will help to try deeper depths. The most productive crankbait is a Strike King Series 3 Crankbait but in June I often move to the bigger Strike King Series 5 and 6. These bigger bodied and deeper diving crankbaits usually produce bigger bass. When you have current I would use a jig with a Rage Craw along the rocky river banks for smallmouth bass, Lews makes an excellent med-heavy rood and reel combo for this as well. White bass bite throughout June as well. I like to fish for white bass with a white grub, Series 3 crankbait or Strike King clear walking bait. When you fish for the big Stripers in June you will do well early and late on top water baits. If you can catch live natural bait with a throw net you can use the live bait to drift from the dam and catch a big striper. If the Pickwick Dam is not generating current Striper fishing is usually not the most productive fish in the Pickwick area. Without current I would move to either bass fishing, white bass fishing or even catfishing. While I am often fishing for other species, I do like to catfish from time to time in June and it is usually a good idea because I can often pick up several catfish without a lot of preparation. The still water in front of the dam is a good place to catfish almost anytime but if it gets slow there I like to move down the river to deeper water in the river channel and fish with a nightcralwer or cutbait.
