We're still catching fish but it's getting a bit tougher as the Dog Days of Summer are here and the fish are on the move! A couple of days this past week we had some early AM Top Water Schooling action and easily filled the box with fish but on other days we had to burn a lot of gas, hunt the fish down and catch them on the Slab and Jig Combo. We're finding our fish way up the Richland or Chambers Creeks in shallow water ranging from 10'-20' feet on Points, Ledges and Humps. We're actually avoiding the deeper Main Lake area due to the Thermocline that has set in for the Summer. (A Thermocline is stratified water where the oxygen and temperature is not to the fish's liking and the fish can't survive below the Thermocline) On several days the action was better in the mid to late morning timeframe and we had a good feeding period to end our trips.


Late Summer is a time of year that frustrates the casual fisherman because he/she can't find the fish where they have been all Spring and Summer. The fish are in different locations, normally on the move and if you don't know the lake well, you'll often think there's no fish to be caught.
