  • Savannah Fishing Report - GA

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Heather and Kurt Hamilton Savannah, Georgia did quite a bit of catching!

What did they catch? Some really nice spotted sea trout and Spanish mackerel! And that my friend is exactly what’s for dinner for a few nights to come!

Kurt Hamilton Savannah, Georgia and his wife Heather did a litte inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters this past week! Kurt is holding up a nice Spanish mackerel that he caught while doing a little pitching with a diamond style spoon.

Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters is happy that he got to see the hooked fish that jumped, which made those jumping rings shown in the picture right above his head. Must have been a nice one for sure!

The 2019 Spanish mackerel season has been a good one so far! And there are still more good months to come! What does this mean? This year season is not near finished yet! I have caught Spanish and king mackerel at the artificial reefs as late as the end of November!

Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters is holding a just landed Spanish mackerel. This fish hit a diamond spoon, which Captain Garrett pitched right into the Spanish mackerel’s strike zone! During this time of the year it’s possible to catch Spanish while pitching directly into the school as these fish are feeding and over any near shore wrecks. This fish loves to eat glass minnows! Spanish are known for schooling up their prey, pushing it to the surface, and having what is better known as a “feeding hay day!” So if you see them jumping them are most likely feeding!

Glass minnows and juvenile squid are known for schooling up together tightly and also for seeking quiet time at any sort of wreck. Mackerel are known for their darting feeding detail of attacking while on the run. So therefore at this time of the year if you are privy to some near shore wrecks you certainly can meet up with the fish there! Please know that when pitching baits to this fish I suggest going with a shiny metal type match the hatch sort of a lure. Just to name a few: Small diamond jig, Hopkins Lure, any sort weighted small spoons, and etc.

While inshore fishing with Captain Garrett Ross of Miss Judy Charters Heather and Kurt Hamilton Savannah, Georgia caught some really nice fish! Exactly, “They did a whole lot of catching this past week!” What did they catch? Some really nice spotted sea trout and Spanish mackerel! And what artificail lure did they use to catch these trout? Z man swimming trout trick lures on jig! Get some today and pitch them tomorrow!

    Spanish mackerel Have Arrived

August is the month that the Spanish mackerel starts jumping!!

For those fishermen that want to have a good time catching as well as a short boat ride to the fish now is the time. All waters from the sounds to the beachfronts to the artificial reefs are holding the interest of these fish! Before you couldn’t see them jumping, but now you can!! I guess what my father said come to past once again. When the month of August arrives so do the surface holding Spanish mackerel meaning they start jumping! According to my father the best date was anytime after August 6!!

    Artificial Reefs
Lots of top water fish such as King/Spanish mackerel/barracuda! But when it comes to bottom fishing there most likely will be loads of small bites to be had! No bottom fish keepers here!

    Savannah Snapper Banks
The bottom fishing in this area is great and so is the top water fishing! Just go now you know!

Captain Judy Helmey Miss Judy Charters!

Well, Captain Terrell “Terrible” Terrell Gooding Tybee Island, Georgia is holding up a nice cubera snapper sometime referred to as a dog snapper! Anyhow it is a fighter for sure!

Captain Kathy Brown and Captain Terrell “Terrible” Terrell Gooding Tybee Island, Georgia are both sporting fish catching smiles! However, Terrell did not mean to catch this seemly just hatched juvenile genius red snapper! So therefore, we vented and released back to the wild! Yep, it swam off!

Well, these two are back at it again... Captain Terrell “Terrible” Terrell Gooding Tybee Island, Georgia and Captain Kathy Brown are both sporting fish catching smiles! This time Terrell is showing off his just caught king mackerel! Yep, marinated king mackerel steak on the grill served up soon!

While offshore fishing with the Miss Judy Charters fishing crew of the Miss Judy Too Keith Willing Peachtree Corners, Georgia caught this nice king mackerel! What did it hit? A medium ballyhoo rigged on a light tackle live bait rig! Yep, the shine of the ballyhoo got this fish’s attention and the small hooks, which made up the rig, held it! And Keith skillfully reel it to the boat! I love it when a catching plan comes together!

Meet the Miss Judy Too fishing team...from left to right: Keith Willing Peachtree Corners, Georgia Captain Terrell “Terrible” Terrell Gooding Tybee Island, Georgia, Captain Kathy Brown, Alli “The Kid” DeYoung! Yep they all look happy to me! Why not? The love to go fishing! And that is what they are doing!!
